The Michelman Gallery
From my time as an antique dealer I always dreamed of doing museum work. The renovation of the interior of the old sheriff’s Department building and historic jail in Newfane felt like a job that was made for me. The building had been a patchwork of cubicles and other spaces, cobbled together over the years as its uses changed and the challenge was to open it up to larger rooms that would be galleries and leave openings between them where doors had been so patrons could wander through. The Museum is now open to the public and adds much needed space for the Society's substantial collections. The Michelman Gallery started as two rooms with a central closet and became this open, well lit space for showing artwork of local interest. Historic Society of Windham Co.
